Long held to be the location of the start of the Meeker Massacre, Junction Ranch has a storied history in Grand County’s past that even stretches into Rio Blanco County. The camera at this location frames an unmodified section of the Fraser River. The continental divide looms in the background with Parry and James Peaks representing the high points at well over 13,000 feet. Winter Park Ski Area is tucked away just beneath the high peaks. Geographically located at the low end of the Fraser Valley at the head of the Fraser Canyon, Junction Ranch and the adjacent town of Tabernash lies at what is called a “sink” and are often up to twenty degrees colder during the coldest part of the day than Winter Park, just six miles away at the upper end of the big valley.
