Broome Hut

LOOKING Closer

This camera is a fixture on the deck of the Broome Hut high in the Second Creek cirque in Grand County, CO. At 11,350 feet above sea level, winter arrives early and lingers late each year filling the basin with deep snow that feeds Second Creek, the Fraser River, and eventually the Colorado River. It is not uncommon for snow to be visible in the cirque year round. This is a favorite area for backcountry skiers. The Berthoud Pass Ditch, or Hoop Creek Ditch can be seen bisecting the landscape. Built in 1902, the ditch diverts water from the west side of the continental divide to Hoop Creek and into Clear Creek to make Coors and Coors Light beer in Golden.
