The Platte River Basin is 90,000 square miles situated in the heart of North America. The basin consists of alpine trout streams, braided prairie rivers, networks of dams and reservoirs, sweeping grasslands, vibrant wetlands, working ranches and farms, and is home to an incredible array of plants, wildlife, and people–a place of remarkable beauty, diversity, and resilience. Platte Basin Timelapse is proud to present ‘Platte Passages’, a photo gallery exhibition hosted at WallSpace-LNK. Platte Passages presents the photography work of PBT producers Dakota Altman, Ethan Freese, Mariah Lundgren, Carlee Moates, and Grant Reiner, each with deep roots in Nebraska and the Great Plains. Together, their photographs reflect years spent exploring the rivers, prairies, wetlands, wildlife, and communities of the Platte Basin. Accompanied by personal reflections, every image offers a passage into the photographer's connection to a moment in time. Platte Passages will run August 7-August 30 at the WallSpace-LNK gallery. Gallery hours are Friday-Sunday, 12-5pm. All photographs will be available for purchase for $225.

UNMC and the Healing Arts Program will host an artist’s talk, “Into Whooperland,” featuring noted nature photographer and conservationist Michael Forsberg, at 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center. The event will begin with talk by Forsberg on the connectedness of people, the environment and the journey of the whooping cranes. Forsberg’s photographic expedition with whooping cranes follows their journey of conservation and strength. He has traveled roughly 50,000 miles on what he calls the “Whooper Highway,” an ancient north-south pathway from whooping crane wintering grounds on the Texas Gulf Coast through the Great Plains to summer nesting grounds in Canada’s Northwest Territories. In his 30-year career, dedicated to wildlife and conservation stories in North America’s Great Plains, Forsberg’s images have been featured in publications that include Audubon, National Geographic, Nature Conservancy and Sierra magazines. His fine art prints are in public and private collections, and his solo exhibitions have traveled nationwide. “Cranes are great connectors — they link habitats and people along their flyways and wherever they reside,” Forsberg said in his book, “Into Whooperland.” “The healthy wetland and grassland habitats essential for their survival are equally vital for our survival too.”   Seating […]
